The Governing Board
The governing board of St Margaret’s CE Primary School is made up of volunteers from parents and school staff who are elected and volunteers appointed by the local authority and Chichester Church of England Diocese.
The governing board operates at a strategic level, leaving the Headteacher and senior school leaders responsible and accountable for the operational day-to-day running of the school.
The core functions of the governing board, as set out in the Department of Education’s Governance Handbook are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding school leaders accountable for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
Governance is a corporate responsibility and it is only the full governing body that has legal duties and powers. Individual governors have no power or responsibility. All governors share corporate responsibility.
